After taking on the interim role of Director at Culture Counts last autumn, I'm thrilled to be staying put - in one of two newly-created Co-Director roles. I'll be working 2.5 days per week on advocacy work to support Scotland's arts, heritage and creative industries, alongside Co-Director Joe Peach.
The rest of the week I'm continuing to (happily) freelance, focussing on community arts and participatory projects, and work with a focus on social impact. I'm currently enjoying getting stuck into some really nourishing and interesting freelance work with Junction Arts, Luminate and Fun Palaces.
Culture Counts is an opportunity to build on the partnership-building, project-development and network support skills I enjoyed so much via Culture Collective. It's also a chance to get stuck into much more of the mechanisms of cultural policy and decision-making, and to think more strategically about how best to promote and protect the culture sector in Scotland for the long term. In that, I'm delighted to be surrounded by the most brilliant folk in Culture Count's team, Steering Group and network.
More on Culture Counts' work, events and opportunities to get involved are here. And for freelance work, do feel free to get in touch via hello@kathrynwelch.co.uk.
